It's off to Lotschental Valley, surrounded
by 17 peaks, each of which towers to nearly
10,000 feet.
The people of the valley have kept their
old local costume and distinctive dialect.
To reach the six-mile valley, we'll take
a train from Speiz to Goppenstein,
then a postal bus to the towns of Klippel,
Wiler and Blatten.
Known for its ceremonial, hand-carved face
masks -- which you can see and purchase
in several places -- the valley has houses,
wooden granaries and barns dating back to
the 17th and 18th centuries.
